Back in the olden days, many people thought that dragonflies and damselflies were actually fairies! Nowadays, we know that they are different from one another – and sadly enough – not fairies. What does it mean when you see a dragonfly or damselfly? We’ll talk about dragonfly and damselfly totem meanings in this article.
Dragonflies are hatched from eggs that are laid on, in, or near the water. Because they are land, water, AND air animals, they represent shifting between different realms and worlds – often between the dream world and the “real” world.
Dragonflies are also symbols of transformation. Their evolution or metamorphosis from living as wingless nymphs in and under the water to a full-blown flying dragonfly can take up to four years! Most of the time a dragonfly is alive, it is in its nymph stage, living in the water, eating mosquito larvae and other dragonfly nymphs.
