Because Yara spent years working as a Professional Behavioral Health Worker and because she is a Latina living in the Southwest US, she has experience not only with the personal effects of racial oppression and inequality, but she has also worked with the topic from the perspective of an agent of the government. What she found in her work was often not what she hoped it would be.
